Terms of Service & Privacy Clause Glossary
What the fine print actually means — every clause the ToS-TLDR scanner looks for, explained in plain English.
Contract Clauses
Arbitration ClauseAn arbitration clause forces disputes out of court and into a private forum picked by the company — often far away, under its rules.Class Action WaiverA class-action waiver forbids you from joining other users in a group lawsuit — every claim must be fought alone.Unilateral Amendment ClauseA unilateral amendment clause lets the company change the agreement at any time — your continued use counts as agreement.Liability CapA liability cap limits what the company can ever owe you — often to the amount you paid in the last 12 months, or to one dollar.Indemnification ClauseAn indemnification clause makes you cover the company's legal costs — even for disputes between it and third parties.Choice of Law & VenueChoice-of-law and venue clauses decide which country's laws and which courthouse apply — the company picks both.Non-Solicitation ClauseA non-solicitation clause forbids you from hiring or recruiting the other party's employees — a restriction borrowed from B2B contracts.
Privacy & Data
Perpetual & Irrevocable Content LicenseA perpetual content license lets the company keep using, modifying, and redistributing what you upload — forever, even after you delete your account.Data Deletion Rights (GDPR / CCPA)GDPR and CCPA give you the right to have your data deleted — many ToS bury that right under slow, burdensome request procedures.Third-Party Data SharingThird-party sharing clauses let the service hand your data to advertisers, data brokers, and 'affiliates' — sometimes hundreds of companies at once.
